Other Planets Might Be Diamond Rich
Other planets and galaxies really are fascinating aren’t they? The more you learn about them the more you figure that anything can be possible out there. With that said it is now thought that other planets in our solar system or in other solar systems might be rich with diamonds. This is very interesting to think about. What can this mean? How could this change the way we think about the universe? It just goes to show you that diamonds are thought about much more than just something you wear on your finger. Let’s talk a little bit about planets that might have diamonds on them and what that could mean.
Carbon Planets
The solid planets that are in our solar system are generally made up of rock. However, a study has shown that planets around other stars might actually be made up of carbon instead. Obviously we all know that carbon and diamonds are very compatible. This means that the further into the planet you go the more pressure you will find. All this carbon and all this pressure would mean that deep inside the planet there could theoretically be layers of diamonds, miles thick. These planets are thought to be made up of broken bits of asteroids. The space rock is called carbonaceous chondrite, and has been collected on Earth.
What This Leads To
Knowing more about possible carbon planets means that we can reshape what we know about our solar system. These diamond filled planets might be more common near the center of the galaxy, then where our solar system resides. This could also help with how we learn about the atmospheres of those planets as well. If the technology is good enough someday we could even learn about new styles of diamonds that might exist! The good part of finding like this is that the possibilities are virtually endless. Carbon is something that is very interesting, and it goes beyond just being a substance that creates diamonds.
Diamonds are a Scientists Best Friend
Of course there is no chance we can actually go get those diamonds from these carbon planets, at least not yet anyways. Do not look for space diamonds to make an appearance any time soon. It just shows you though that diamonds are much more helpful in our daily lives then we might have thought. Knowing that there is a chance diamonds are created on a planet shows that there is much more we can learn about the planet in question. It opens up a whole new world of possibility. We bet you did not think that you would learn about diamonds and space today did you?
