Hope Diamond

This diamond is one of the most famous in America. It is on display at the National Museum of Natural History. In the 1600s it was actually a 112 carat diamond, but was recut in 1673 to 67 carats. Now it is 45 carats. It is believed to have been found originally in Golconda, India. It was mined in the Kollur mine. There is also said to be a curse on the Hope Diamond that affects the person who owns it. This creates some mystery behind it.

Cullinan

The largest diamond ever found is the Cullinan. This diamond is 3,106 carats in size. It was discovered in 1905 in Transvaal, South Africa. This was such a large find that in 1907 it was presented to the King of England, King Edward VII. The Cullinan II was also found, but that was cut into many small diamonds and placed in the Imperial State Crown. The Cullinan was later cut into nine stones. The Star of Africa is one of those stones.

The Great Mogul

This diamond is believed to be the third largest uncut diamond that has ever been found. It was found around the year 1650. The original size of the Great Mogul has been stated as 787 carts. Later it was cut to 280 carats. The diamond is named about Shah Jehan, who is the builder of the Taj Mahal. He ended up firing the cutter because he did a poor job. The Great Mogul diamond has actually disappeared, and the reason is a mystery.

Pumpkin Diamond

The Pumpkin Diamond is only 5.54 carats. Compared to other famous diamonds this is very small. The reason it is so famous is because it is one of the largest Fancy Vivid orange diamonds in the world. It has a very intense coloring while remaining very light. It was mined in the Central African Republic in 1997. It was set into a ring between two smaller white diamonds, and was worn to the Oscars by Halle Berry in 2002, the year she won the award for Best Actress.
