Ice Age Diamonds

There are many theories about how diamonds got to our planet. Diamonds are so spread out that the theories are numerous and they just keep on coming. This is especially true when scientists find new evidence of diamonds from early Earth. Today, let’s talk about another one of these theories that is growing. What can this teach us? Well, if you love diamonds then it is always great to hear more about where these precious gems came from. Maybe one day you will want to get in this science, or into the business, and the more you know the better it will go.

Eastern U.S. Diamonds

A lot of diamonds and other metals have been found in the eastern part of the United States. States like Ohio and Indiana have diamonds and those other metals, and tests have shown that they actually came from Canada. The transportation happened thousands of years ago but the real question is, how did this happen? This question is enhanced because there are no mines in Ohio, but there are plenty of these mines in Canada. How does the Ice Age play into all of this?

The Ice Age

There is a theory proposed that there was a comet three miles wide that splintered among glaciers and ice sheets in Canada. This all happened about 13,000 years ago. This explosion would have killed everything in it distance. Diamonds could have been thrown into the air during the blast. The diamonds also could have been carried down south by the rivers that were formed by the melting glaciers. The stones could have rained down for many months after the explosion. They could have been small enough that you could not see them or large enough where you could have gotten hurt if they hit you.

What We Can Take Away From This

There are places where diamonds reside that are probably not the original point of existence. You can choose to just accept whatever you want in relation to the diamonds, or you might not even care just as long as there is a nice, shiny diamond to wear on your finger. There are some people who want to know how these diamonds get to be where they currently are. It is discoveries like this that really help that process move along better.
